Happy Family Better Community Foundation (HFBC) is a community-based nonprofit dedicated to strengthen family ties and building inclusive, connected communities across Durham and beyond.Rooted in Canadian values and inspired by multi-cultural harmony, we promote community well-being through volunteer engagement, intergenerational connection, cultural celebration, and accessible opportunities for meaningful participation.We believe that strong families help create healthier, more resilient communities. Through inclusive programs, volunteer service, and culturally responsive events, we create welcoming spaces where individuals and families feel supported, valued, and a true sense of belonging.
Learning Together. Connecting People. Strengthening Community.HFBC Foundation brings people together across generations and backgrounds to learn, contribute, and build lasting connections.We believe people need more than activities to attend. They need places where they can meet others, learn something useful, share what they know, and find a way to take part in community life.That is why learning and community service are closely connected in our work.Through volunteer training and practical learning in areas such as music, language, arts, digital skills, safety, communication, and leadership, people can develop skills and confidence. HFBC's community activities give them real opportunities to put those skills into practice.That may mean spending time with seniors, joining our choir or band, helping with family and creative activities, taking part in Youth Activation, or volunteering at larger community celebrations such as the Mid-Autumn Festival.These activities also create something that cannot be taught in a classroom: relationships.Young people and seniors learn from one another. Newcomers meet people outside their usual circles. Volunteers gain experience and, when they are ready, take on more responsibility. People who first come to participate may later find themselves helping someone else.Not everyone has to become a volunteer or a leader. There is room simply to learn, participate, make friends, and feel connected. But for those who want to do more, we want to give them room to grow.The programs themselves may change as community needs change. The purpose behind them will remain the same: helping people take part, contribute what they can, build relationships, and strengthen the community around them.HFBC's role is to create the opportunities and conditions that help people do that together.

We do not endorse any political party, candidate, or group, and we do not allow partisan promotion in our programs or events. We are not affiliated with any faith organization, and our activities are not used for religious proselytizing or fundraising. HFBC is committed to respect, equity, and inclusion, and we welcome individuals and families of all backgrounds, languages, and abilities, as well as all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions (including LGBTQ2S+). We are dedicated to providing safe, respectful, and discrimination-free community spaces for everyone.
